Conquer Your Thin Hair for Good A MultiMethod Approach eBook Julia Black
For women interested in strategies to combat thin or thinning hair, this book offers multiple options that can work alone or in tandem. The writing style is breezy and humorous, but that belies information which is substantive rather than superficial. While the author touches briefly on medical aspects related to thin hair, the bulk of the content is practical advice. Recommendations for additional resources help round out a comprehensive guide to improving hair quality. The lone flaw, at least on a Kindle Paperwhite, is that the visuals and photos don't render all that well. Otherwise, this book includes just about everything a woman could need to win the battle against thin hair.Product details

Conquer Your Thin Hair for Good A MultiMethod Approach eBook Julia Black Reviews
This is a very helpful book, and one that I’ve already recommended to a friend. Julia Black’s writing style is engaging and friendly, which makes it so easy to read through 80-odd pages of information on tackling thinning hair. The 10 chapters break down the material in a comprehensive way, from lessons on curbing your everyday bad habits to the more advanced medical treatments. Though I’ve read my fair share of hair tips, many of the facts were completely new to me, and a few technical and medical terms - explained simply - helped give some of our hair conditions a name. And at the end of each chapter, a To Do List puts the information you’ve just learned into an action plan.
One of the things I appreciated most about the book was Black’s personal experiences in almost every aspect of the process. In many ways, I’d take her word over that of a medical practitioner with a full head of luscious hair. Black goes to the extent of listing the products that she found most effective, always mindful to offer suggestions on the more reasonably priced of the range.
My only complaint is the layout, which is crying out to be professionally done to give all this research the look it deserves. Also, there are photos of women with different hairstyles spread throughout the book, and you’re often asked to flip back several chapters to see the photo that Black is referencing in the text. I think this could have been avoided by repeating a smaller shot of the image on the current page.
But the layout is definitely no reason to avoid the book - there’s just too much useful information here. I’m convinced this book will be helpful to women who have tried a few tricks here and there to live with their thinning hair, but need a comprehensive guide that brings it all together and gives them hope. Black does just that.
I always love reading books by Julia Black! The way she writes conjures in my mind, a helpful friend offering sage and friendly advice. Something along the lines of a group of lady friends sitting together talking over a problem (in this case, thinning hair as we age), and one of them says, "Well, you know, you can try this... or maybe if that doesn't work for you, you can try this..." Ms. Black makes it clear that she is no medical expert, just someone with personal experience who wants to share what she has found, and which might work for ladies with thinning hair. Her style is casual, laid-back, and friendly, just as if she were a friend sitting in your living room, as I mentioned above, and while I don't have a problem with thinning hair yet *crosses fingers* I still enjoyed reading the book. It is both fun to read and informative.
Once again, due to my association with a book-lovers’ website, I have the distinct pleasure of reviewing one of Julia Black’s books. The author is building an impressive repertoire of books focused on women’s health. In addition to this book about healthy hair, Ms. Black has also published books about beauty, nutrition, and marriage.
As a middle-aged man, it’s easy to feel like a fish out of water when reading Ms. Black’s books. This is certainly the case with “Conquer Your Thin Hair for Good,” as I have not owned a comb or hairbrush in at least three decades. Regardless, it quickly became apparent that this is an excellent, superbly-written book and will no doubt be a very useful resource for women with thinning hair.
In my opinion the best thing about Julia Black’s books is the way her sincerity shines through. There are plenty of people out to make a quick buck with self-help books, but that is definitely not the case here. Ms. Black writes with both candor (she attests to her own struggles with thinning hair) and realism (there are no miraculous “snake-oil” solutions here). To quote from the book
“There are many things that people swear by for re-growing hair. And yet, the world is overflowing with people with thin, thinning or bald heads.”
As conveyed in the title, the book offers a “multi-method” approach to the problem of thinning hair including styling, shampoo and conditioning techniques, wigs, hairpieces and extensions, and minoxidil. The book, as previously mentioned, is very well-written and free of typos or errors. Her personal experiences really bring the issues to life (such as her tale of glue-in extensions).
If I had to find anything to criticize, I suspect the book would be even better if her reference photos were all consolidated within the chapters. There are numerous instances in which the reader has to bounce back and forth between chapters to view a photo. Additionally, I suspect the chapter about styling could have been a bit more comprehensive. It seems to me the foundation of dealing with thin hair as a woman would be finding the right haircut and style.
These are minor issues, however. The bottom line is Julia Black has hit another home run, and she is quickly establishing herself as a tremendous resource for women’s health and beauty issues.
5/5 stars.
Not too informative. Very dissatisfied with this book. Written with only shatters of information here and there you can get more useful information from a wig catalog.
